the start of potty training

Logan is 20 months old.  Probably around 15 months he began telling us he went “poop” which stands for any action that could possible happen in the nether region.  We are not pushing him in any way, but at the same time, not going to discourage him from using the potty if he so desires.  So, we went and bought a cheap potty chair so the he could sit on at leisure.  I am glad we got a cheap one considering the potty chair is more of a toy then a place to do one’s business.  The pot portion serves a dual purpose, it easily becomes a hat.

Logan has stepped up his potty game by now telling us that he has to “poop” before he actually goes.  This results in what I find to be something to laugh at.  Not at him, but at me, or whomever is taking him to the potty.  Because this is so new, and not knowing if he grasps the concept of holding it, when he says its time to go, we are running full speed to the bathroom.  This of course, get him laughing.  I’m sure I look like a lunatic running behind him in a race to pull down his pants and remove the diaper.

I do not like pull-ups at all.  They are simply diapers that can be pulled up or down.  They were a waste of money 12 years ago when we were potty training our older daughters.  We used cloth training underwear with them and will do so again with Logan and eventually Madison.  They learned by the uncomfortable wet feeling they got when they had accidents.  Anyway, today’s fun potty time went a little like this….

Logan said:  “poop”

Mommy said:  “do you have to use the potty?”

Logan:  <nods head up and down>

Mommy:  “let’s go…run, run, run…”

Mommy:  <pulls down shorts and removes diaper and plops Logan on the big toilet.>

Logan says:  “poop”…he is peeing.

Logan:  “All done”

Mommy:  <gets Logan dressed and goes back to the living room.  Once in the living room….>

Logan:  “poop”

Mommy:  “do you have to use the potty?”

Logan:  <nods head up and down>

Mommy:  “let’s go…run, run, run…”

Mommy:  <pulls down shorts and removes diaper and plops Logan on the big toilet.>

Logan says:  “poop”…this time he got it right.

Logan:  “All done”

Mommy:  <gets Logan dressed and goes back to the living room.>

When this is all happening, all I can do is chuckle.  I don’t recall potty training to be so entertaining last time.  I also don’t recall it being this easy.  Hope I didn’t just jinx myself.
